FlashGet - Downloads made easier and faster

Downloading files from the Internet is not something new. But all of us prefer them to be downloaded at the highest speed. Unfortunately, browser in-built download managers are slower, and don't use the available download speed completely.

You would have seen many programs that offer to download files faster - especially Download Accelerator, which is a paid software. Why waste your money, when you can get the same (or even better) effect from free softwares? Just give FlashGet a try and you'll continue using it.

It adopts different strategies to improve your download speed, like downloading the file by splitting it, and using different connections from the server for each slice, and thus enhancing the download speed.

Moreover, it has a batch download feature, which means you can download a series of files, from the same URL. For example, these files
http://images.server.com/file000.jpg
http://images.server.com/file001.jpg
http://images.server.com/file002.jpg
...

can be downloaded just by specifying the variance, in the batch download option:
http://images.server.com/file(*).jpg
with a wildcard size of 3 bytes and numbered from 0 to 2. You can select numbers or alphabets as wildcards.

By using batch downloads, it is much easier to download, for example a series of photos, which are numbered. This is a great way to download magazines using this hack.

There’s an Invisible status option, which was available only in the Gmail’s inbuilt version. You can also Sign in to your AIM Messenger. Unlike the stable version, it doesn’t open new windows for chat, instead is built into tabs.

It also includes new notifications, like that of the Google Calender, Orkut Scraps, Gmail mails, etc. But being in the labs, it is gotten rid of the Call function, thus making it a not-so-better update to the present Google Talk.

Can't delete a file? Try Unlocker

You might have noticed that when you try to delete some files, an error pops up : "File is already in use" or "File access denied". In most cases, you'd have to do a reboot to be able to delete the file again, or you might not even be able to delete it in Safe Mode. This error is because a process of yours is using the file you're trying to delete.

Unlocker solves this problem, by eliminating the handle to the file from the process which is using it. It is an easy-to-use program, integrated to explorer, which unlocks any file with just a mouse-click.

All you have to do is to right-click the file, and click Unlock. A window will pop-up showing the processes using the selected file. You can end all handles by clicking Unlock All, or you can kill the process.

Finally the browser from Google

Chrome

Google has launched its latest browser, Google Chrome. It gives you a new experience, which is missing for the other most popular browsers, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari etc.

Download Google Chrome now and feel it for your self. It includes many new amazing features, like the Task Manager, Arrange the tabs, Drag-and-Drop tabs from one window to another, and much more.

The tast manager gives you control on every tab on your browser. Since Chrome runs every tab as a separate process (see Windows Task Manager), you have the option to Close a tab that is not responding. It also includes details about the Memory, CPU usage and Network utilisation of every tab.

In every new tab you open, Chrome displays Most Visited Pages, Bookmarks, and Recently Closed Tabs. Thanks to Google, you can easily reopen accidentally closed tabs. Chrome is the slimmest browser I have ever seen, as in the Full Screen mode of Firefox, with even no title, other than on the tabs. But I do miss all those plugins I had for Firefox.

I think it consumes a bit more memory than other tabbed browsers, because each tab is added as a new process. It also lacks the dictionary, featured by Firefox.

Here is the official video, displaying the features of Google Chrome.
